Ripple's RLUSD Stablecoin Goes Live: Transforming Global Payments
Ripple has officially launched its groundbreaking Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin on December 17, marking a new era for digital payments, institutional finance, and decentralized finance (DeFi) integration. RLUSD is positioned to revolutionize cross-border settlements with speed, compliance, and enterprise-grade stability.
Where RLUSD Is Now Live
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced on social media platform X that RLUSD is now available on leading exchanges, including:
- Uphold
- Moonpay
- Coinmena
- Archax
- Bitso
Further expansion is planned to include:
- Bullish
- Mercado Bitcoin
- Zero Hash
- Independent Reserve
- Bitstamp
Garlinghouse underscored RLUSD’s rigorous compliance framework, stating:
“Ripple made a deliberate choice to launch our stablecoin under the NYDFS limited purpose trust company charter, widely regarded as the premier regulatory standard worldwide.”
Ripple secured final approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) last week, highlighting the company’s commitment to transparency and regulatory adherence.
RLUSD: The Bridge Between TradFi and DeFi
RLUSD’s design caters to financial institutions, enabling:
- Instant cross-border settlements
- Liquidity for remittances
- Seamless integration with DeFi protocols
Built for dual compatibility on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum blockchains, RLUSD simplifies on- and off-ramping for fiat-to-crypto transactions. The stablecoin will also serve as a bridge to tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) and support real-time treasury operations.
Ripple Payments, which processes $70 billion in annual payments volume, will incorporate RLUSD into its global operations in early 2025, further solidifying its role in enterprise finance.
Expert Backing and Future Potential
To bolster its strategic vision, Ripple has appointed Raghuram Rajan, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and Kenneth Montgomery, former COO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, to its advisory board.
Rajan praised RLUSD’s potential to modernize payments, stating:
“Stablecoins like RLUSD provide a secure and efficient alternative to traditional systems, transforming private payments.”
Montgomery echoed this sentiment, emphasizing RLUSD’s role in enhancing financial inclusion and modernizing global finance.
A New Standard for Stablecoins
With a strong regulatory foundation, partnerships with top-tier exchanges, and cutting-edge technological compatibility, RLUSD is set to:
- Boost liquidity in the XRP ecosystem
- Enable secure and scalable payments for enterprises
- Drive innovation across DeFi and institutional finance
Ripple’s focus on transparency, utility, and stability positions RLUSD as a benchmark for the next generation of regulated stablecoins.
